It’s Saturday morning. The bells of Marbella’s centuries-old church ring. Colonels, captains, bridesmaids, family, friends, police, officials, priests, drivers. Marbella’s people gather around. From the hordes of uniform-wearing colonels, we can hear a loud noise. The noise of an overdue conversation, the type of conversation you have when you see someone for the first time in years. This photo, taken in 2020, right after Spain’s strict COVID lockdown, highlights humanity to me. The chaos of a reunion. The desire to step away. To look into the sun, to forget about your surroundings, and to enjoy the moment. A skill I did my best to acquire while growing up in Spain.
